Kel-Tec

Your Guide to KelTec Firearms

If you’re interested in concealed carry firearms, KelTec is likely a name you already know or should become familiar with very soon. Officially known as KelTec CNC Industries Inc., the company was founded by George Kellgren in Cocoa, Florida in 1991. Born in Sweden, Kellgren began his career designing for other gun manufacturers including Husqvarna, Swedish Interdynamics AB, Intratec, and Grendel before starting his own business. He still serves as KelTec’s CEO and chief engineer, applying that Swedish design sensibility to deliver some of the most innovative firearms on the market.

After a few years of producing firearms and parts for other gunmakers, KelTec officially released its own line of guns in 1995. That first gun was the KelTec P11 pistol, and it proved to be a defining moment not only in the history of the company but in the American gun industry in general. The P11 pioneered concealed carry handguns in the United States and helped make KelTec what it is today: one of the top 5 handgun manufacturers in the U.S. and also among the largest in the world.

Since the early days, KelTec has expanded its offerings to include other types of firearms, too. Its primary categories now include pistols, rifles, and shotguns. As a result, KelTec serves the needs of a variety of gun owners, from the military and law enforcement to private citizens interested in protection, self-defense, or target and sport shooting.

Types of KelTec Guns

Regardless of your needs, there is almost certainly a KelTec firearm that should satisfy your requirements. You can find a large selection of KelTec guns available for sale at GunPrime. Which one is right for you? Let’s take a look at several of the most popular KelTec models, along with their main characteristics and features.

KelTec P11 Pistol

We’ve already touched on the P11 a bit, as it has the distinction of being the first firearm manufactured by KelTec in 1995. Aside from being the gun that started it all, this semi-automatic, short-recoil operated pistol was highly influential in the concealed carry community. That’s because it packs the punch of a much larger gun in a compact, readily concealable frame.

The P11 easily fits inside a pocket, holster, or bag, and its smooth, rounded edges make it unlikely to catch on anything if you need to pull it out quickly. At just over 17 ounces unloaded, it won’t weigh you down either. Due to its power and convenience, the P11 became a favorite of plainclothes police officers, security personnel, and as a secondary weapon in the military.

KelTec stopped producing the P11 in 2019, but it leaves behind a tremendous legacy in the gun world.

KelTec PF9 Pistol

The tradition of the P11 lives on in other handguns like the KelTec PF9 pistol. Introduced in 2006, the PF9 improved on many of the qualities that made the P11 such a popular trendsetter. At just 12.7 ounces with a 3.1-inch barrel and 0.88-inch width, the PF9 is among the smallest, lightest 9mm pistols available. It’s made from 4140 steel, making it very durable and resistant to wear. Highly accurate at short range, the PF9 is a fine choice as a self-defense option for law enforcement, military, and civilians alike.

KelTec PMR30 Pistol

The PMR30 semi-automatic pistol is known for a sleek, futuristic design that still provides plenty of firepower. This handgun features front and rear fiber optic sights for excellent target acquisition. It even has an integrated accessory rail, allowing you to mount a weapon light for low-visibility situations. Able to hold 30 rounds in a flush-fit magazine, the PMR30 is a favorite option of outdoor enthusiasts, range shooters, and more.

KelTec CP33 Pistol

The KelTec CP33 is a competition pistol that boasts 33 rounds per magazine. However, due to its capacity, accuracy, and versatility, it should appeal to more than just competition shooters. The CP33 has many similarities to the PMR30, like its steel and polymer construction, with some key distinctions. It comes with a Picatinny top rail and M-LOK slot, so you can easily attach a variety of optics and accessories. The CP33 is also a very ambidextrous firearm with safety levers on both sides of the grip and a charging handle at the back of the receiver. If you’re looking to prove your sharpshooting skills at the range or in competition, the CP33 is definitely worth a try.

KelTec KSG Shotgun

The KelTec KSG shotgun features a bullpup design, meaning its action and magazine are located behind the trigger. This makes the gun much shorter and more compact than other shotguns without sacrificing power or accuracy. Despite its smaller size, the KSG offers plenty of capacity thanks to two magazine tubes that can each hold seven 2.75-inch 12-gauge shotshells or six 3-inch shotshells. The user can manually switch between tubes with a simple switch behind the grip. You can even fill each magazine with a different type of load, like buckshot in one and slugs in the other.

KelTec RDB Rifle

The RDB is a series of semi-automatic bullpup rifles available in various calibers. It offers easy ambidextrous use thanks to its patented downward-ejection design. In fact, the abbreviation RDB stands for Rifle, Downward-ejection, Bullpup. Rather than send spent shells flying out of a side port, these rifles send them downward through the stock. Variants of the RDB include the RDB-17, RDB-20, RDB-C, and RDB-Survival. KelTec designed the trigger to be exceptionally smooth, addressing one of the most frequent concerns with other bullpup rifles. The RDB also includes an adjustable gas system to help the user minimize recoil.

KelTec SUB-2000 Rifle

The KelTec SUB-2000 is a semi-automatic folding carbine available in 9mm and .40cal options. It folds neatly in half, allowing you to take it with you when space is limited. This pistol-caliber rifle is compatible with magazines from many other manufacturers’ handguns, so you can easily share ammo between the SUB-2000 and your sidearm. The increased sight radius and longer barrel provide better accuracy than a traditional handgun. When you need a versatile, convenient firearm for backpacking or other outdoor excursions, the SUB-2000 will do the job.
